Food & DrinkWe are first and foremost a country dining pub, and Head Chef Nick MacGregor’s ethos is very simple – the very best ingredients, cooked simply, cooked well. His team work tirelessly to create dishes that shows off the diverse array of flavours of the British countryside.
We are truly blessed to be surrounded by the most sensational produce, and in conjunction with our wonderful suppliers, Nick lets these amazing ingredients do the talking, creating simple, unfussy food that gains annual recognition in the Michelin Guide amongst others.
Throw an unforgettable party at Berkshire’s best private dining venue.
We have 3 private rooms that can cater for up to 40 seated or up to 60 standing, and can cater for every taste and budget, from simple coffee mornings to large celebration dinners.
Feast with friends on roast suckling pig, settle back with a glass of port after a shoot dinner, sip champagne and nibble on canapés at an intimate wedding… or just celebrate with the family over a birthday dinner.
With easy access to Reading, Newbury, Oxford, Heathrow, the A34 and the M4 with its links to London and the West, the Royal Oak truly is one of the best party pubs in Berkshire.
Unwind in the warm and earthy, oldy worldy pub, with perfectly kept ales from local breweries, 2 log fires, wonderful oak beams and beautiful bespoke oak tables. Or sink into one of our leather sofas in the lounge overlooking the village square, and while away an afternoon in front of the open fire
With a twinkling maple tree at its heart, the orangery is the new centrepiece of the Royal Oak. It overlooks the brand new kitchen which features an amazing 3 tiered rotisserie, Argentine parilla grill and pizza oven. Bi fold doors lead out to our beautifully re-landscaped garden, with sofa terrace, firepit, and an amazing water feature. Diners can choose between sitting under the pergola or on shaded tables around the Victorian walled garden.
Enjoy lazy al fresco lunches and dinners on smart wicker chairs under the beautiful vine, or while away a few hours on the lawn, surrounded by a plethora of flowers that explode with colour throughout the year. After your meal, take a wander in the walled beer garden, or challenge a local to a game of boules on the pub’s very own boules piste.
